My office cubicle is located near the corridor. I often hear a loud and rapid pounding sound like thunder rolling by. Without even looking up, I can tell that it's the sales manager of the marketing department, Deng Guiyun, passing by. 

Manager Deng is the only person in my company who can tell who is coming just by the sound of their footsteps. She is petite and slender, with a typical southern woman's appearance. She usually wears a pair of thick-heeled mid-heeled shoes. When walking, her body leans slightly forward, and her steps are not large, but they are frequent like drumbeats. The thick and hard heel of her shoes strikes the floor powerfully with her entire body weight, even through a layer of carpet, the sound is still clear and loud. The firm and resolute, rhythmic and rapid footsteps are precisely reflecting her determined and bold personality. She has composed a passionate and rich life melody with these firm, resolute, and rhythmic footsteps.

The backbone of the company

Manager Deng joined the company in 1997 and has a working tenure of 18 years, which is only two years shorter than the company's establishment time. Since the company began to select outstanding employees in 2001, Manager Deng has been honored as an outstanding employee 10 times, and was only absent from the list for three years. Although the company has no tradition of awarding sales champions, in fact, based on the sales data, Manager Deng has held the position of sales champion for many years. 

Sometimes it's hard for me to imagine that such a petite woman could possess such great strength. But upon closer reflection, every achievement she has made is actually a natural outcome and something that should be expected. There are three excellent qualities in her that we all should learn from: 

One, being conscientious 

I have only been at this company for a short time. Before interviewing Manager Deng, I always assumed that she was a Hakka from Guangdong Province. The reason for my misunderstanding was partly due to her petite figure and plain appearance, and partly because of her kindness and diligence. Her kindness and diligence were also very evident in the company: ① Her desk is always neatly arranged; ② Every day, she always finishes her work until it's done, and often works overtime very late; ③ For each task, she personally follows up, such as when preparing a tender document, she often accompanies the colleagues from the technical department and the budget department to do it and provides timely assistance and customer feedback; ④ Also because of her own kindness and diligence, there are no flaws in her eyes, and thus she can always detect some problems in the company, providing great help for the improvement of company management. 

I once heard the colleagues from the technical department and the budget department say: 'Manager Deng hasn't come to the company yet. I feel relieved. But when Manager Deng comes to the company, I know it will be another busy day.' This statement actually has two meanings. One is that Manager Deng has many projects and always brings back new tender documents to handle every time he returns; the other is that Manager Deng always finishes his daily work before stopping, so perhaps this day will also require me to stay late with her until midnight. 

II. Firmness 

Manager Deng's personality is just like her walking pace - firm, decisive and forward-moving. Even when she walks short distances within the office, her footsteps are always brisk, loud and powerful, never showing any hesitation or indecision. It is precisely this resolute personality that enabled her to break through obstacles and forge ahead in the market, and to reap a harvest along the way. 

III. Always Be Passionate 

After working for a long time, everyone will inevitably experience some degree of job burnout. Job burnout has become a common problem for people in the workplace worldwide. However, I don't see any signs of job burnout in Manager Deng. Every day when she arrives at the company, it's as if a clock has been wound up, and she starts her day's work with great enthusiasm. She communicates with clients by phone, goes to colleagues' seats to follow up and discuss work... Except for lunch breaks, I rarely see her having any downtime. 

As a seasoned professional who has been working in the industry for 18 years, and a long-term employee of the company for 18 years, despite the long-term wear and tear of time, he still maintains such high morale and enthusiasm for work, which is truly admirable.

A formidable opponent in the eyes of one's peers

Walking on the street, Manager Deng is just an ordinary and unremarkable little woman, blending in with the crowd and having no distinctive brilliance. She usually carries a backpack on her shoulders. Sometimes, when you look at her closely, she even seems a bit like a studious little schoolchild. However, as the saying goes, a heavy sword has no sharp edge. In the eyes of all her colleagues, she is a powerful opponent that cannot be ignored. Her reputation has already spread in the industry and has become the target for colleagues to pursue and the role model for them to learn from. 

How could such a petite and ordinary woman become so powerful and make all her colleagues feel pressured and afraid? The secret lies in just two words: diligence. Unlike other salespeople, Manager Deng was involved and assisted in the production of every bid document almost throughout the process, and incorporated the clients' will and requirements into every detail of the bid documents; at the same time, she was well-versed in the content of the bid documents and could answer every question raised by the clients fluently.

The always-pretty little girl in the eyes of the customers

When Manager Deng joined the company in 1997, she was still a young woman just over 20 years old. At that time, the company had only been established for less than two years and the conditions were very tough. She, along with Tao Shengtian and Liang Yun, the earliest salespeople, rode bicycles to go out and do business every day. At that time, the roads in Shenzhen were very poor, and they would come back covered in dirt on sunny days and mud on rainy days. However, in just eighteen years, Manager Deng has now entered her forties. Once, when Manager Deng went to visit a client, she met an old client from back then. He recognized her at a glance and said in surprise, 'Oh, that little girl back then has grown up so much!' This 'little girl' was like an elder greeting a younger one, expressing an endless sense of warmth and emotion. 

But in fact, apart from her age, Manager Deng's figure has not changed much. She is still petite and thin. Her personality remains the same as when she was a young girl - sincere and straightforward. When dealing with customers, she still behaves like that young girl, always lowering her posture and offering the most enthusiastic service with a humble attitude. As a result, she always gains the trust of the customers.

A virtuous wife in her husband's eyes

Manager Deng is an outstanding employee in the company and a considerate wife at home. At work, Manager Deng is firm and decisive, but at home, when it comes to minor matters, she and her husband usually have their own opinions. However, when it comes to major issues, Manager Deng definitely follows her husband's advice. Her husband also fully supports Manager Deng's work. Manager Deng doesn't drive, so her husband always drives her to meet clients or deliver documents. 

Manager Deng has no particular personal hobbies. Every day, she is either at the company working or at home doing housework. She hardly goes out for fun. Even on weekends, she seldom goes out and mostly stays at home. Occasionally, she takes a long nap. The rest of the time is spent on housework and taking care of her three-year-old daughter. Of course, after such a life for a long time, it is inevitable to feel bored. Manager Deng also hopes that she can cultivate some hobbies, such as the whole family going on trips to relax or participating in some community activities to broaden the scope of her life.
